I’ve been wanting to use video more for my teaching, especially for online classes. Here are a couple of initial attempts that usually just end up with me being silly. Some of these are in the form of video blogs.
- “The Southern Baptists, Norman Mailer, and Me” — A short film I made for the 2008 Norman Mailer Society Conference.
- Course Introduction — for my online English Composition 2 course, Fall 2006.
I love the power of iMovie for the creation of digital stories. You have to love an application that can bring together various forms of media that document our lives into powerful personal expressions. Here are a few of my attempts at digital storytelling.
- “Fall on Campus” — I took my little Sony camera around campus to look at the beautiful fall colors and some other things.
- “First Year” — My very first experiment with iMovie was a video celebrating my first year together with Autumn.
- “Timmy” — One of my first digital stories was for my brother’s birthday in 2005. I use this as an example when I teach digital storytelling.
- “Cleareyed” — Documenting my second year with Autumn. Better than my first one, I think.
- “The Quest” — How does one propose marriage that doesn’t seem trite? Well, I made a short film about my quest(ion).
- “The Luckiest” — One of my most recent stories. I presented this one to Autumn on the evening before our wedding. It premiered in front of all of our friends and family at the rehearsal dinner. It went over well.
- “Day of the MacBook” — Autumn got her MacBook on during our last tax-free holiday.
- Birthday Musings 2006 — A story about an encounter in Nashville, TN.
I’ve been creating Web sites for over ten years. Recently, I have become a big fan of the CMS, especially ones that allow me to get at the CSS for tweaking. This web site represents my most current work, but I have other efforts as well.
- MSC Humanities — the Division of Humanities web site is made with the Drupal CMS.
Photography is a relatively new interest of mine. It began during the summer of 2005 while Autumn was studying abroad in England. I purchased my first digital SLR and have been honing my abilities ever since. See my photography page for more.
